Track List
1. Genesis
I was born in Arizona while my dad was finishing college, and we spent a few years there before moving to Saudi Arabia, where I grew up. Living overseas shaped a lot of who I am, I’m bilingual and can speak, read, and write in Arabic, though I’m a bit out of practice these days.
Being the oldest of four taught me early how to improvise, negotiate, and occasionally referee. My dad was a computer science major and had a Commodore 64, cutting‑edge at the time, and that’s where I first learned BASIC programming. It sparked a lifelong love of technology and creativity.
While most kids around me played soccer, I got hooked on basketball in middle school and kept playing through high school. This was during the golden era of Jordan, Magic, Pippen, Bird, and Rodman. My brother and I also made music together, experimenting with whatever gear we could get our hands on.
After high school, I moved to the U.S. for college and eventually landed at Purdue University. I started as an undecided major (a choice I don’t recommend), took time off to earn instate residency, and worked at Wabash National, which offered tuition reimbursement. That led to an associate degree in computer‑aided design at Ivy Tech, followed by a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering technology with a minor in computer graphics.
I’ve always loved animation, design, and music software, Photoshop, Acid, Magix, anything that lets me create something from nothing. One of my favorite memories is arriving in the U.S. having never used the internet. People tried to explain it as “a place you can look things up,” and I just didn’t get the appeal. Now I can’t imagine life without it.
2. Where Love Lives
I live in Chicago with my partner, who patiently tolerates my LEGO obsession and makes sure I’m properly fed and functional. We’ve called this city home for more than fifteen years, and it still feels fresh every season.
My family is scattered across the globe, my dad in Oman, my mom and two siblings in Ireland, and I have a brother in Indiana, but we stay close. Thanks to WhatsApp, no one ever feels too far away; our group chats are a mix of jokes, updates, and the occasional photo of a new niece or nephew.
My partner’s family is from Oklahoma, big and wonderfully close knit. We visit as often as we can, trading Chicago skyscrapers for open skies and long conversations around the chiminea.
Our families are the people we lean on, the advisors, cheerleaders, and steady voices that make anywhere feel like home.
3. The Spark
When we’re not working, we’re usually out exploring Chicago, my partner is a foodie, so we’re always chasing new restaurants and street fest snacks. In summer, we bike all over the city and occasionally remember that the beach exists.
We love to travel, whether it’s a quick weekend with friends or a long trip with family. Sightseeing, hiking, and discovering small, unexpected places are our favorite ways to recharge.
Music is a big part of our lives, we go to way too many concerts, especially at smaller venues. We joke that we like catching artists either on their way up or on their way down.
I’m also a lifelong tinkerer. LEGO is my creative outlet (I even built a LEGO heart for our wedding ceremony), and my CAD background made learning LEGO Digital Designer feel like second nature. I play a little guitar, and I have a weakness for gadgets, Kickstarter has seen far too much of my wallet.
At the core of all these interests is curiosity. I love learning, experimenting, and finding joy in how things work, whether it’s a new piece of tech, a song, or a city street I haven’t biked down yet.
